Q: What is that place with all the white crosses?

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

It's the Witkruis Monument, nobody is buried there, the white crosses are said to represent all the whites killed on farms. Are they an accurate representation of all farmers killed by farm attacks? No, definitely not. Between 1990 and mid-2017 there were 1888 farm murders (including black people) recorded by the Transvaal Agricultural Union. In 2011 however, the owners of the white cross monument added an extra 2000 crosses to the many crosses already standing on the hill. This shows that crosses are added in random amounts and are not an accurate representation of the amount of murdered farmers.
